Former 1050 chum sportscaster
Veteran broadcast journalist Dave Wright, whose career took him from Ontario to the Maritimes and beyond, has died at the age of 82. His death after a battle with cancer was reported Thursday on CTV Atlantic, where Wright anchored the Halifax-based ATV Evening News from 1989 to 1993.
Wright's career in radio began in 1950 at a station in Sudbury, Ont., and he moved on to television with CHCH-TV in Hamilton. Wright known as 'boomer' was also a sportscaster at radio station 1050-CHUM in Toronto.
Wright began working with ATV News in 1976, where he also created and hosted ''Live At 5,'' a news magazine show that leads into the suppertime newscast and is still running. Wright also spent two years working in Boston before returning to Halifax in 1989. Source: broadcastermagazine.com
