'I got into radio because from the age of 13, I fell in love with the medium and that's all I ever wanted to do. I joined the radio club in my high school in Oakville and was writing and producing commercials and production pieces for the noon close circuit programming in my bedroom using my Seabreeze record player hooked up to a small 3" tape recorder with microphone my parents had bought me.
I discovered CHUM in early 1960 and quickly became addicted. I listened to Dave Johnson at night and was only allowed to listen to Bob Laine on weekends when there was no school the next day. I went to the Spring Sportsmen's Shows and the CNE in 1960 and '61 and hung around the CHUM trailer most of the time. One August day at the CNE in '61, John Spragge was walking across from the Honey Dew stand back to the CHUM satellite station and I started talking with him. He was friendly and asked me what I wanted to do when I grow up. I told him I was going to work at CHUM someday. ...'
